Vetmedin Oral Solution contains Pimobendan, a medication that helps manage congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs. It works by improving the heart's ability to pump blood and widening blood vessels.
Suitability +
This medication is suitable for dogs suffering from CHF due to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) or valvular insufficiency. It can also be used in large breed dogs with preclinical DCM to delay the onset of CHF or sudden death. Possible side effects include a moderate increase in heart rate, vomiting, transient diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy. It is contraindicated in dogs with hypertrophic cardiomyopathies or conditions where increased cardiac output is not recommended, such as aortic stenosis. Consult with your veterinarian to determine if Vetmedin is right for your dog.
Care and Instructions +
Administer orally at a dose range of 0.1 to 0.3 mg pimobendan/kg bodyweight twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. The ideal dose is pimobendan 0.25 mg/kg bodyweight (equivalent to Vetmedin oral solution 0.07 mL/kg bodyweight) twice daily. Each dose should be given on an empty stomach, at least one hour before feeding. Consult your vet for the correct dosage and to monitor your pet whilst on this medication. Store below 25°C (air conditioning) and protect from light.
